Letter No. 0426-GADMSC-A-UGRM – 2022

Mr.
Olle Appelgren
CEO – FOUNDER
FOUNDATION IMO OCEANUM

SUBJECT: REQUESTING TECHNICAL AND OPERATIONAL SUPPORT FOR MARITIME EMERGENCIES IN CANTON AND THE PROVINCE OF GALAPAGOS

With this letter I would like to greet you on behalf the San Cristóbal Canton, which includes San Cristóbal and Floreana islands in the province of Galapagos. We are pleased to express our welcome to your Foundation, thanking you for your collaboration with this Galapagos Province with the donation of life jackets for the cantons of Isabela, Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal.

On Wednesday, November 16, 2022 a session of the cantonal Emergency Operations Committee (COE) was held with the participation of the Working Groups: GT-1 Logistics, GT-2: Security and Control, GT-3: Search and Rescue. The meeting held at the SIS ECU911 Galapagos, was chaired by Tech. Johana Buenaño, Deputy Mayor, with the participation of Eng. Shuber Lombeida - Technical Secretary of the Governing Council of the Special Regime of Galapagos and the Directors of the IMO OCEANUM Foundation.

After the technical visit and the presentation of the Maritime Rescue project in Galapagos, I am pleased to express the importance of this project for the San Cristóbal canton, due to the objectives set for rescue and salvage at sea; pollution control; transport and evacuation of injured persons between islands in which we do not have the logistical capacity to solve them with personnel, boats and specialized equipment, which is one of the most important needs for the inhabitants of the province of Galapagos.

Based on everything that has been stated, as Mayor and President of the San Cristóbal cantonal COE, articulating all the institutions that make up the decentralized risk management system of the canton, I would like to kindly requests the signing of a framework agreement for cooperation in order to provide technical and administrative support in the canton of San Cristóbal, with the purpose that your Foundation starts operations as soon as possible, with active participation in support of your project, for which I would appreciate the attention given so that the maritime rescue station starts in our canton.

Attentively,

Technician Henry Cobos Zabala
MAYOR AND PRESIDENT OF THE SAN CRISTOBAL CANTONAL COE
